Julaton invades Mexico anew, battles Ramos

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton, the first Fil-Am boxer to capture the Women’s WBO and IBA Super-bantamweight titles, returns to Yucatan, Mexico to take on Abigail “Pinguita” Ramos.

The third installment of the Hurricane’s Laban ng Lahi series for GMA Network, the fight dubbed “Bagyo sa Mexico 3 – Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton vs Abigail “Pinguita” Ramos” will be aired on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on GMA.

Julaton marks her third trip to the Mexican territory, where she’s gained a wide following owing to her previous performances atop the ring. The Pinay fighter previously outclassed two hometown bets, Jessica Villafranca and Yolanda Segura, earning the nickname “Yucatan Princess” from Mexican fans.

The 32-year old Phl pride (10 wins, three losses and one draw) brings her years of experience to this battle, being one of the fastest fighters in history to become a world champion after only seven professional fights.

Ramos (3-3) gets her baptism of fire and looks for a major upset that could propel her fledging career.

“This is still a major fight for me,” Julaton said.

“Ramos has nothing to lose and will bring it all, and I have to be prepared accordingly. A loss would derail my long-standing dream of fighting in the Philippines in front of my own people and I simply cannot let that happen. Making adjustments for a last minute change of opponent is a challenge in itself but I will be ready.”

Ramos was a replacement fighter for another Mexican, Magali Rodriguez, who suddenly disappeared on promoter Orion Sports.

“She (Rodriguez) simply disappeared on us,” said Orion Sports president Allan Tremblay. “She left us hanging a week and half before the fight. Fortunately, we were able to secure Abigail Ramos who was in training for another fight and jumped at the chance to fight Ana. These things happen in boxing and you just have to deal with them.”

The Julaton-Ramos fight will also air live via Super Radyo DZBB 594khz at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 anchored by Orly Trinidad and Manny Vargas.
