Tuason makes impact by dominating Formula Cadet race

MANILA, Philippines - Arthur “AT” Tuason flashed top form as he captured the Formula Cadet Expert crown in the Philippine leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Tuason, 9, swept both the Pre-Final and Final races of the Formula Cadet class to nail the lone trophy for the TRS-Castrol Racing Kids Team.

“His victory will certainly boost his confidence as he vies in future karting competitions,” said multi-awarded race car driver Mike Tuason, the man at the helm of the TRS-Castrol Racing Kids Team under the Tuason Racing School Race Career Management Program (TRS-RCMP).

The younger Tuason displayed near-flawless driving and strategy to ward off his rivals who included some previous winners of the said division and deliver the victory for the team powered by Castrol, Bridgestone, Standard Insurance, C! Magazine, OMP, Coke Zero, Oakley, Aguila and Toptul.

He wrapped up the 15-lap final heat in 15 minutes, 23.170 seconds or eight seconds ahead of the other karters in the combined race.

The TRS-Castrol Racing Kids Team also bagged a third place trophy behind AKOC Macau kickoff champion Flynn Jackes in the Mini-ROK class and a fourth place finish from Wils Casequin in the Formula Cadet Expert division.

Much was expected from the nine-year-old Fil-Aussie, but heavy rain spoiled his bid for back-to-back crown. He lost the lead to the Indonesians following a lapse then he figured in a spin-out that dropped him to sixth place.

But Jackes rallied to salvage third place overall and still emerged the top local finisher in the class.

“He did his best. At his age, the pressure had been tough for Flynn with only a year into racing training and experience really work hand in hand to become a champion karter,” said Tuason.
