Superal falls short in Women's Trans

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal failed to sustain a solid start and lost steam in the first half of her marathon 36-hole duel with Breanna Elliott of Australia, dropping a 3&2 setback in the final of the Women’s Trans National Golf Championship at the Members Club at Woodcreek in Columbia, South Carolina Saturday.

Superal, coming off a pair of wins in the quarters and the semis, went 2-up early with two pars and a birdie but yielded the lead just as quickly as Elliott hit two birdies in the next four holes.

The top ICTSI-backed bet then bogeyed Nos. 13, 16 and 17 as she failed to flash the putting form she showed in toppling Rinko Mitsunaga and Rika Park in the previous matches and fell by three holes after the morning duel.

The break hardly revived her form as she bogeyed No. 2 after missing the green then fell by as many as six holes after Elliott birdied Nos. 3 and 4.

The Southern Ladies champion did fight back with back-to-back birdies from No. 8 and moved within two at No. 14, only to sputter with a double-bogey mishap on the par-3 No. 15, enabling the Aussie bet to coast to the win.

Still, it was an impressive finish for the 15-year-old Superal, who earlier teamed up with Sarah Ababa to claim the Howell Team Trophy for the ICTSI-The Country Club squad.
