Adamson beach belles rebound from opening loss

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Adamson standout Paulina Soriano and Sheila Pineda rebounded from an opening-game loss by crushing AMA Computer College standouts Lorie Lyn Longalong and Sheila Mae Fajardo, 21-8, yesterday at the start of the 2012 Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament’s third leg at the sand-courts of the University of the East-Caloocan campus.

Soriano scored thrice on three service winners, allowing them to bounce back from a 15-21 setback to University of the East-2 bets Krysel Cueva and Marni Pedrosa.

They never looked in trouble after Soriano and Pineda took a 10-3 advantage and posted their first win in two games in this two-day spikefest backed by Mikasa and Speedo.

“We made some adjustments and we minimized our errors,” said Pineda.

The two share the Group A lead with Centro Escolar University’s Giza Yumang and Melissa Tebangin, and the San Sebastian College pair of Gretchel Soltones and Czarina Berbano.

Yumang and Tebangin prevailed over St. Dominic of Asia’s Ma. Evangeline Pastor and Evelyn Gomez, 21-16, while Soltones and Berbano won over AMA’s Longalong and Fajardo, 21-13.

Comebacking Satchel Senupe, formerly of La Salle-Dasma, and teammate Anna Adolfo took the lead in Group B, with two other teams after they outplayed La Salle-Dasmariñas’ Cherry Rose Nunag and Bea Canillas, 21-9.

La Salle-Dasmariñas’ Monique Tiangco and Maribeth Lara showed a more aggressive game in toppling Battle of Champions winner – UE’s Francislyn Cais and Jessica Paron, 21-19.

Arellano University’s Jan Galang and Mary Jane Ticar won over Philippine School of Business Administration’s Joan Arceo and Naomi Otoshi, 21-12.
