Guioguio seeded 3rd; five others advance

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Lovelynn Guioguio fired a two-under 71 to clinch the No. 3 seeding while five other ICTSI-Philippine bets made it to the match play phase at the end of the 36-hole stroke play elims of the Western Women’s Golf Association National Amateur Championship in Monroe, Michigan Tuesday.

Guioguio, the reigning Philippine amateur champion, pooled a 144 to finish third behind Thai ace Ariya Jutanugarn and Mary Maggio of Arkansas, who closed out with 141 and 143 after a 75 and 71, respectively.

Five other Filipinas advanced to the knockout stage with Jayvie Agojo, the reigning Hong Kong Am champion, carding a 74 for joint 10th at 147 and Mia Piccio and Sarah Ababa joining four others at 12th with 149s after a 75 and 76, respectively.

Dottie Ardina and Princess Superal, winner of the recent Southern Ladies Open, wound up tied at 23rd with 151s after a pair of 76s while Cyna Rodriguez failed to make the 64-player cut at 155 with a 157 after an 81.

Guioguio, a quarterfinalist here last year, takes on Sarah Matthews of Tennessee in Wednesday’s start of the match play while Agojo collides with Michigan’s Kimberly Dinh.

Piccio faces Georgia’s Emee Herbert, Ababa squares off with Ohio’s Allison Schultz, Ardina mixes it up with Aurora Kan of Pennsylvania, and Superal slugs it out with Isabelle Kane of Illinois.

The ICTSI-Phl squad also shared the Maschmeyer Cup with Thailand as Guioguio, Agojo, Ababa and Piccio combined for 589 to win the award given to four players from the same country with the lowest combined scores over the 36-hole stroke play elims.
