Punch stats speak well for Pacman

- Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

LAS VEGAS – At most, Manny Pacquiao gave Timothy Bradley three rounds, and he had the numbers to back it up.

According to the punch stats, the 33-year-old Filipino outpunched the 28-year-old American, 253-159.

And even if Bradley threw more jabs for the whole 12 rounds, 449-258, Pacquiao still landed just a little more.

With the power punches, Pacquiao connected 190 out of 493 for 39 percent, compared to Bradley who landed only 108 of 390 for 28 percent.

“I tell you the truth, I don’t even remember if he hit me with one punch,” said Pacquiao who kept on taunting Bradley to hit him.

“Maybe the jab, but I don’t remember he hit me with a solid punch to the face. It’s amazing what the result was,” said Pacquiao.

“I think I did well. And I believe he was hurt every time I landed my left. So, maybe I give him three rounds. I credit him three rounds,” said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao said he was happy that early on Bradley tried to engage, and it was early on when he landed his biggest shots of the evening.

Pacquiao hit Bradley with his left crosses and left straights in the opening rounds, and by the second and third rounds the American started to breath from his mouth.

“I was excited that he was fighting toe to toe. So my goal was to knock him out.”

But things changed, and in the later rounds, Bradley started to move better, despite what he said later on that he sprained his left ankle as early as the second round.

Bradley said that impaired his movement.

“But I persevered and went through the pain,” he said.
