Forest Hills dominates WGAP circuit 2nd leg
MANILA, Philippines – Forest Hills stamped its class at home and ran away with victories in Classes A and C while Villamor dominated Class B in the second leg of the 2012 Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit Presented by Pacsports at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo recently.
The hosts pooled 143 points under the Modified Stableford scoring format and posted a four-point win over Alabang with Sun Mi Hwang and Tess Staub firing identical 38 points and Grace Atienza and Nelda Roguel backing them up with 34 and 33, respectively.
Alabang, seeking a third straight overall championship in the 10-to-play, four-to-count format event organized by the Women’s Golf Association of the Phils., assembled a 139, nipping Villamor (138) by one for runner-up honors.
Villamor Golf Club, with Mary Ann Reyes shooting 45 points, topped Class B with a 153 for an eight-point romp over Canlubang, which had a 145, while AFP Golf Club, formerly Aguinaldo, finished third with a 144.
Other scorers for Villamor were Melissa Gozum, Vivian Mawis and Gloria de Villa, who had 38, 36 and 34 points, respectively.
Forest Hills, led by Sohan Yu’s 40 points, outclassed the field in Class C as it turned in a 151 to beat Tagaytay Highlands (143) by eight points with Canlubang finishing third with 130. Eleanor Yeung, Cory Sy and Lilian Yu also posted 39, 38 and 34 points for the host club.
Villamor’s Samantha Martirez took the individual title in the premier class with 37 points while Cangolf’s Jovy Mondoyo copped Class B honors with 41 and Jessalyn Tan of Tagaytay Highlands scored 40 points to bag the Class C crown.
Meanwhile, Sta. Elena, led by Rio Co (38), Carina Ricamonte (36), Alice Jose (34) and Divina Nemec (32), posted a rare sweep of the three divisions in the kickoff leg of the annual circuit among the leading ladies of the country’s top golf clubs recently, ruling Class A with a 140 for a nine-point win over Orchard (131) with Canlubang placing third with a 123.
The Sta. Elena golfers, composed of Nancy Ortiga (44), Tami Leung (40), Amelia Ward (37) and Marilen Bantug (36), likewise ruled Class B with a 157, 10 points ahead of Alabang (147) with Villamor finishing third with 138, and then topped Class C with a 155 for a whopping 16-point romp over Villamor (139) with Alabang settling for third with 138.
