PNSA wants to host SEASA shootfest
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA) is bidding to host the Southeast Asian Shooting Association (SEASA) Championships next year, according to PNSA president Mikee Romero.
If successful, the annual event, according to Romero, could be the biggest shooting tournament to be held in the country since the 2005 Manila SEA Games.
“We are making a strong bid to host the event next year,” Romero, president and CEO of Harbour Centre, said. “We need to stage more international tournaments to entice the young ones to take up the sport.”
The event, Romero added, will not only give the Filipino shooters the opportunity to enhance their confidence but will also boost the country’s tourism.
“With 15 countries joining in on the event, it’s going to be a big boost not only for our athletes and shooting enthusiasts but also to our sports tourism,” said Romero.
Tasked to lobby for the country are PNSA sec-gen Col. Nil Gamboa and vice president Gay Corral.
The country’s shooters – 21 of them – are currently competing in Kuala Lumpur where Olympic-bound Brian Rosario is hoping to strike a gold in the skeet event.
“If we win the hosting, I am very sure we can develop more world-class shooters like Rosario,” said Romero.
