Lyceum, Informatics advance to CDL finals

-

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum University of the Philippines and Informatics trounced their respective rivals to clinch the finals slots in the women’s and men’s divisions, respectively, in the Sandugo-Collegiate (Basketball) Development League.

The No. 2 Lady Pirates, led by Frances Mae Cabinbin and Su Vasquez, fashioned out a come-from-behind 65-52 victory over the third seeded National U Lady Bulldogs while Informatics swamped St. Benilde, 68-48, to advance.

Cabinbin, a leading MVP candidate, and Vasquez took charge for Lyceum, which trailed 22-28 at the half but seized control as the Pirates toughened up on defense down the stretch.

Cabinbin finish with 26 points while Vasquez added 14 markers.

Lyceum will meet the winner of the other semis match between top ranked St. Benilde and UAAP champion Far Eastern University.

The Lady Blazers and the Lady Tams clash today at the San Juan gym with the former enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.

Also on tap is the other semis duel in the men’s division with NU squaring off with STI in the event sponsored by Gatorade, Phiten, PSC, and Primovit Multivitamins.

In men’s play, Informatics imposed its will against St. Benilde early, taking a 21-10 lead and never looked back. Informatics pulled away by 17 at the half, 40-23 before cruising to victory.
