MANILA, Philippines - Letran guns for win No. 4 against a struggling Mapua side while La Salle and University of the East try to zero in on quarterfinal berths against separate rivals today in the 2012 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Knights take on the Cardinals at 12 noon, looking for their fourth win in six games and hoping to stay within striking distance of Group A leader and early quarterfinalists San Beda (7-0) and Ateneo (6-1). Mapua is down in the standings with a 1-5 card in a tie with University of the Phils. and Perpetual Help.
The Archers also seek their fourth win against two losses as they battle the lowly Altas at 1:45 p.m. Perpetual, however, is coming off a 63-59 victory over Mapua last week.
Meanwhile, the league suspended Igee King of Emilio Aguinaldo College and San Sebastian’s Michael Juico and Michael Miranda for their involvement in a brawl during the SSC-EAC match which the Stags won, 83-68, last Wednesday.
In the other seniors game, University of the East (2-2) tests their mettle of the on-and-off University of Santo Tomas side (2-3), capping today’s hostilities in the tournament presented by Bostik Phils. and held in cooperation with Total Phils. Corp. and backed by major sponsors Vulcaseal, Meralco, NLEX Road Warriors, TMS Ship Agencies, Inc., KIA Motors, Nature’s Spring, Bayo, BDO, Molten and Oxycan.
The Knights, who played minus their top scorer Kevin Alas in their last two games, remain a top contender for the quarters with a team bannered by Jam Cortes, Mark Cruz and Raymond Almazan.
The Warriors, on the other hand, are coming off a 58-57 victory over the Archers but face a tough task against the Tigers, who are out to get back into the thick of things and improve their 2-3 slate.
