Tamaraws, Bombers eye No. 2

-

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U and Jose Rizal clash for the No. 2 spot in Group B even as San Sebastian shoots for its third straight win against Lyceum today in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at The Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Tams, in distant second behind the National U Bulldogs, who show the way with a 7-0 record, seek to improve their 3-1 against the Bombers in their 3:30 p.m. encounter.

But the Bombers are also out to bolster their chances after a 3-3 start in the tournament presented by Bostik Phils., Inc. and held in cooperation with Total Phils. Corp. and major sponsors Vulcaseal, TMS Ship Agencies, Inc., KIA Motors, Meralco, NLEX Road Warriors, Nature’s Spring, Bayo, BDO, Molten and Oxycan.

San Sebastian, for its part, hopes to sustain its run after back-to-back losses as it guns for its third win in a row against Lyceum at 1:45 p.m.

In a Group A match, Letran, fresh from a come-from-behind 81-77 win over Perpetual Wednesday for a 2-2 card, plays University of the Philippines (1-4) at 5:15 p.m.

University of Santo Tomas leaned on Cameroonian Karim Abdul’s 15-point, 15-rebound effort as it waylaid Mapua, 80-61, late Wednesday to post its second win in five games in the other match.

Meanwhile, organizers announced tickets for the keenly awaited showdown between arch rivals Ateneo and De La Salle University on June 2 are now on sale. Prices are pegged at P400 for ringside, P300 for lower box,  and P150 for the upper box.

Regular rates, however, will apply in all other scheduled games for the day.

Tickets are available at SM at 470-2222.
