Anton takes third track record
MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled racing champ Carlos Anton of Castrol-Yokohama–Cars Unlimited Racing dominated the Circuit Showdown anew, posting his third record-breaking triumph in as many races recently at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Anton steered his Mark Young-Hornitex prepared CRX with a Mohspeed-tuned engine built by Morris Miranda to a blistering laptime of one minute, 45.942 seconds around the 3.5-kilometer Batangas race track with the big support of Yokohama, Castrol, Hornitex Flooring, Cars Unlimited, Special Stage, Autoshack, Home outlet, Sizzling Plate and Richmond Auto parts.
With the win, Anton further extended his championship lead as they go back to Clark International Speedway for the fourth round of the series in June.
“The car was fantastic today and I’m happy to get not just the win but also the track record. We have been preparing the car well because we need to use the same car right after this race for the finals of the Hillclimb championship in Bataan,” said Anton who leads the Hillclimb Championship where he is gunning for a sixth straight King of the Hill title.
Joby Tanseco, in a Lamborghini, came in second with a time of 1:48.558 seconds while Rolf Wiltschek parading a Porsche GT3RS came in third with a time of 1:50.819 seconds in the Bracket A time trial division to lead the huge field of over 60 drivers who joined the series.
“We are a little down on power as our car only has 215 horsepower but it corners really well and that’s where we make up the time. But I’m sure the GT 300 cars of the Philippine GT series will break the record sooner or later,” Anton added.
