Coseteng seeks win in GT series
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading drivers brace for another intense battle as they vie in the second leg of the Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway tomorrow in Clark, Pampanga.
Multi-titled Jody Coseteng goes for the another win against a crack field of challengers, including 2011 Golden Wheel Driver of the Year Vincent Floirendo, Stefano Marcelo and Arnel Carlos.
Coseteng came out strong from a two-year absence from the racing scene, beating Floirendo for the GT 300 crown in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Official Tires Yokohama, Official Oil Torco Racing Oil and Racing Beat@Wave 89.1.
Floirendo nearly wrested the lead as he moved within 0.2 of a second but car problems in the ensuing race forced him to slow down. He settled for the runner-up honors.
Marcelo, a four-time karting champ, uncorked an impressive debut in circuit racing as he posted the fastest laptime of 1:47.409 to finish third.
Carlos actually finished third overall to capture the GT200 crown and will be among the racers to watch along with Dwight Kevin Carlos, Mike Tuason of Castrol-TRS, VM Kaikkonen of Hafele-Tuason Racing and Ramil Madriaga.
Completing the cast are Allen Macaraeg, Willie Torres, Micky Kim, Peter Kim, the Racing Judge Bayani Vargas and Taysan, Batangas Mayor Dondon Portugal.
Titles to be disputed are the GT300, GT200, GT130 and the GT100 spread over the 10-lap Sprint race and the 16-lap GT Main Race in the afternoon.
Also on tap are the PHILMINIRACERS Classic Mini Racing 2012 and the VW Kafer Cup where Arvir Gervacio and Carlos Castaneda are eyeing a repeat over their rivals
