PNG baseball competitions kick off May 21

MANILA, Philippines - The baseball competition of the PSC-POC Philippines National Games (PNG) will blast off on May 21 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium, the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association announced yesterday.

Colorful opening rite set at 9 a.m. to be graced by PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia and commissioner Jolly Gomez and PABA president Hector Navasero will formally raise the curtains for action in the 16-team field, according to PABA EVP and tournament director Ely Baradas.

The national youth and seniors’ team will usher in hostilities on the diamond at 10 a.m. followed by the showdown between UAAP champion National University and Angeles University Foundation.

Big league titlist Alabang Tigers and PRISAA rulers University of Mindanao from Davao will square off at 3:30 p.m.

Four other teams will begin their campaign over at the University of Santo Tomas grounds, the games’ satellite venue.

The UST Tigers will defend their pride in their home turf against University of the Philippines at 1 pm afterwhich Rizal Technological University tangles with Manila Jaycees-backed Smokey Mountain.

On the second day, it will be Adamson versus ILLAM Big League, followed by the duel between Philab-Los Banos and Team Tarlac and the tussle between Korean Students Baseball team and PRISAA first runner-up Bicol University.
