CKSC downs Ateneo; Adu shocks FEU

-

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning Metro Manila Tiong Lian champion Chiang Kai Shek College downed Ateneo, 90-85, to post its third straight win while Adamson stunned Far Eastern U, 67-65, in overtime in the FCBL-Freego Cup at the Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City last weekend.

With Carlo Young, Joshua Tan and Mohammad Salim on the firing end, the Blue Dragons seized control midway in the payoff period then held off the Blue Eaglets and kept their win run going after an opening game setback.

Tan and Young finished with 21 points apiece while Salim turned in a superb all-around game as Chiang Kai Shek College tied idle Hope Christian High School for the lead at 3-1.

For tallying 18 points, 13 rebounds and a steal, Salim emerged as the Freego Player of the Game in the event sponsored by Smart.

The Baby Falcons, on the other hand, snapped a three-game skid with an overtime thriller over the Baby Tamaraws.

The loss, FEU’s second in five games, dropped the Baby Tams to joint third with National U and STI.

In other games, STI clobbered UST, 67-46, while NU, the reigning UAAP titist, outlasted Mapua, 62-59.

Aside from Salim, also earning the Freego Player of the Game award were Adamson’s Alwyn Margallo (30 pts, 7 rebounds), STI’s John Parina (12 pts) and NU’s Reggie Morido (14 pts, 8 rbs.)

The event is supported by Hapee Toothpaste, Fruitas Fruit Shake, Nikon Home Appliances, Colt Commercial, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Fern-C and Insular Square (Cebu).
