Cansino rules Dumaguete leg

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Juan Paolo Cansino bagged the boys’ 18-under singles class title in his return to form after five unsucessful tries in the 14th Smart Presents the Head 2012 junior national Tennis Age-Group Satellite Circuit recently.

Cansino, on his last year in the annual circuit, upended Rodolfo Barquin, 6-4, 6-2, in the boys’ 18-under singles in the Dumaguete leg, serving as the sixth stop of the circuit, at the Praxevilla Tennis Courts in Dumaguete.

“I kept playing wild for my first leg title this year because this will be my last. I want to make it memorable,” said Cansino, 18, from the Ateneo de Davao.  “I hope to win more in upcoming legs.”

The Davao City native, who is also a member of the elite Head team since he was 10 years old, is set to compete in the seventh leg in Bacolod.

The 64-day tournament is supported by Smart Communications, Chris Sports, Head, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and Smarts Sport’s Noel Lorenzana, Smart division head for wireless consumer.

Other winners: Barquin (16U), Kimberly Uytico (18U), Jessa Singson (16U), RJ Singson(14U), Leonelyn Domingo (14-U), Vincoy (12-U), Christian Lagat (12-U) and Julian Bandoquillo (10-U).
