Julaton decisions overweight rival

-

MANILA, Philippines - Ana Julaton got back on track in her chase for the world crown she lost two months ago as she pummeled Yolanda Segura in a lopsided 10-round non-title bout at the Polifuncional de la Colonia Francisco Villa Oriente in Kanasin, Yucatán, Mexico yesterday.

Segura, from Tumaulipas, Mexico, weighed four pounds over the limit (126) but failed to use this to her advantage, unable to effectively parry most of the blows thrown by the Fil-American.

Julaton got better as the fight progressed, dominating the Mexican on the way to improving her fight record to 12-3-1 (one knockout).

The 31-year-old Fil-Am’s fine showing spoke well of her capability to once again win a world crown.

She yielded the World Boxing Organization (WBO) female super bantamweight title in her third defense, bowing to Yesica Patricia Marcos in Argentina last March.

Marcos pulled off a unanimous decision then.

“That was not me in the ring last time out,” said Julaton before fighting Segura.

“That environment worked against me in more ways than one and to top it off, I fought my opponent’s fight. We all learn as we go and that will not happen again. I plan to fight to my strengths. This is all about winning. I owe my Filipino fans around the world that title back and that is my mission,” Julaton also said.

Julaton is now campaigning to challenge newly crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion Jackie Nava (26-4-3, 11 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico.

Nava makers her first title defense on Saturday against Diana Ayala in Mexico.
