Taguines gears up for world jr golf
MANILA, Philippines - Young Arnie Taguines earned another stint in this year’s Junior World Championship in San Diego as she topped her division in the recent qualifying tournament at Riviera in Silang, Cavite.
The seven-year-old Taguines strung up rounds of 68-64-68 for a 200 aggregate as she romped off with the Class E crown in the tournament conducted by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
It was Taguines’ third straight win following her victories in the ICTSI-Baguio Junior Open at Baguio Country Club last April 2-3 and the ICTSI-JGFP Interclub Championship last April 11-13.
Taguines, who took up the sport at age five, has been training under the guidance of her grandfather Mario Taguines at the Philippine Navy Golf Club and Club Intramuros, which have been supporting her through free use of their venues along with the Junior Golfers League as she gears up for the Junior World set in July in San Diego.
