So vies in Asian chess

-

MANILA, Philippines - GM Wesley So heads a crack eight-man Philippine team vying for top honors in the Asian Continental Individual Chess Championship which fires off tomorrow in Vietnam.

So, toting a 2653 rating, is coming off a rousing win in the Luneta Open, making him one of the players to watch in the 11-day event serving as a qualifying tournament for the World Chess Cup.

He said he’s working hard to break the 2700 Elo barrier and hopefully step into 2800 level.

“I’m sure he would have a chance to break into the world 2700 barrier,” said National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president/chairman Butch Pichay.
