Anton shatters CIS lap record
MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled race champ and 2011 AAP Driver of the Year Carlos Anton was in a class of his own, posting a record-breaking run to continue his dominance in the recently concluded Circuit Showdown Round 2 at Clark International Speedway.
Anton established a new short track record of 1 minute, 5.067 seconds against over 60 drivers. He also made it two for two in the Bracket-A time trial event using his Mark Young-prepared CRX with a Mohspeed 215 HP engine and supported by Castrol, Yokohama, Hornitex flooring, Special Stage, Home Outlet, Autoshack and Richmond Auto parts.
“It’s been a great start to the season, we got the lap record at Batangas short track last month, now we got the Clark record also and winning by over one and a half seconds was truly special,” Anton said after his closest rival came in at a distant 1 min 06.634 seconds.
Joby Tanseco, on board a Lamborghini, now sits second to Anton in the standings after finishing second in the first leg and third in the Clark race.
“With the temperatures today, it was hard not to overheat the tires and engine but I guess it was the same for everybody so no one will have excuses,” Anton said.
Anton also leads the current 2012 Hillclimb Championships after wins in San Mateo, Rizal and San Fernando, La Union.
The series will culminate with a Day and Night Climb at the Historic Mount Samat in Bataan this May.
