NBA 3-point king holds Best clinic

MANILA, Philippines - Three-time National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Craig Hodges brings his Hodges on Hoops (HoH) to the Philippines on Sunday when he conducts a seminar and shooting clinic to coaches and students enrolled in the Milo-sponsored Best Center at the Ateneo covered courts.

Hodges, who had played 10 seasons in the NBA and was part of the Chicago Bulls team led by Michael Jordan in 1991 and 1992, was also the NBA three-point shooting champion from 1990 to 1992. He holds league records for the most consecutive shots made with 19 (1991) and is tied with Jason Kapono for most points scored in a single round at 25 (1986).

Hodges went on to coach the Chicago State University team before he served as a special assistant coach to Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers, with which he was tasked to work on the shooting skills of the Lakers.

Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training Center’s founding chairman and former national coach Nic Jorge said Hodges will share his coaching expertise with the Best Center coaches during the two-hour morning training before he returns later for a two-hour close encounter shooting training with the students.

“The Best Center is proud to be working with Mr. Hodges,” said Jorge, adding: “He has a champion’s heart, which we hope he would rub on to our coaches and players as the Best Center continues to search and develop future great players in the mold of our former students like Chris Tiu, Kiefer Ravena, JV Casio, TY Tang and Joseph Yeo.

The award-winning Best Center will also open new dates for its basketball clinics from May 3-28, with Monday and Thursday sessions set at the Ateneo covered courts (Level 1 – all ages; and Level 2 – 9-11 years old).

Patts College of Aeronatics will also hold clinics on the same dates, as well as AMA University in Road 20, Project 8, QC; and the Amoranto Sports Complex.
