Fojas, Lui rule architects golf

MANILA, Philippines - Jun Fojas and Gilbert Lui came away with big rounds to top their respective divisions in the Architects Golf Club monthly golf tournament at the Eastridge Golf Club in Binangonan, Rizal recently.

Fojas shot a gross 86 for a net 69 to capture the Group I crown with Larry Salangsang finishing second with a gross 87 and a net 70. Ruel de Castro of BITC Imported Roofing Tiles placed third with a gross 86 and a net 75.

Lui scored a gross 87 and a net 66 to beat Ric Mongalo, which had a gross 90 and a net 68, for Group II honors in the event played under the Stableford scoring format. Julian Confesor came in third with a gross 90 for a net 68.

Meanwhile, the AGC second quarter tournament got under way yesterday with more than a hundred players clashing for top honors at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo.

At Eastridge, Manny Padit of Philflex Wires and Cables ruled Group III with a gross 93 and a net 69, defeating Allan Garcia, who had a gross 99 and a net 72, and Hilario Chua of Republic Powdercoat, who made a gross 98 for a net 73.

Manuel Ko topped Group IV with a gross 98 and a net 62, beating Boni Embuscado, who had a gross 101 and a net 71, and Bobby Cheng of Famcor Glass Works, who had a gross 100 for a net 72.

Roland Polendey shot a gross 102 for a net 70, nipping Louie Montes, who holed out with a bogey for the Group V crown. Romulo de Jesus finished third with a gross 103 and a net 71.

Meanwhile, spicing up the Forest Hills tournament is the staging of the Boysen Cup, Sponsors’ Cup and the AGC Cup Interschool. The Boysen and Sponsors’ Cup winners will be based on point system and will be tallied at the end of the season while the AGC Cup Interschool is a team competition where architects are grouped based on their alma mater. A four-series game, winners will be determined based on the average net of the team and the top 10 players of each squad.

A product presentation from chief sponsor Boysen Paints (Konstruct materials) will highlight the fellowship to be held right after the tournament.
