MANILA, Philippines - Castrol-Yokohama ace driver Carlos Anton snatched his second straight triumph following another impressive stint in the North Series Hillclimb Championship recently in the Hills of La Union.
Competing against 40 of the best Hillclimb racers in the country, Anton proved his worth by clocking 1:28.77 in the 1.75 Km stage up Backsil Ridge.
“The Mark Young prepared CRX ran perfect up the mountain today. We won by 4 seconds on such a short stage, that’s over 2 seconds per kilometer faster. I guess the new suspension is working wonders,” Anton said after the stage.
Anton recently re-signed with Castrol and Yokohama for another racing season of Hillclimb and time attack events after finishing a great 2011 season for both multinational corporations.
Special Stage-Castrol-Hornitex driver Alfie Concepcion also continued his dominance in the Group 4 class winning over Umesh Raimalani who had a horrific crash during his second run up the mountain and fortunately walked away unhurt.
Rocky Fianza showed his win in the Manila South series was no fluke by bagging first place by almost two seconds in Group 2 over Mark Llaguna and round 1 winner Ryan Gacayan.
Borek Fallorin and Dennis Dupo won in Group 3 and 1. BJ Frondoso clocked an impressive time of 1:45.18 in Group S using a 1979 Mitsubishi Lancer, a time fast enough to win in the higher classes.
Anton and his team now set their sights on the second round of the South series to be held April 22 in San Mateo, Rizal. “I hope the car runs as well in Rizal and the Baguio team can have another good showing. It gives me so much pride to lead a winning team from Baguio City,” Anton said.
