Senior golf series starts at Veterans
MANILA, Philippines - The Federation of Philippine Amateur Senior Golfers Inc. (FPASGI), in cooperation with the Veteran Senior Golfers Association, will stage the second leg of the Magnolia Purewater Senior Golf Series today at the tree-lined fairways of the Veterans Golf Club in Quezon City.
FPASGI president Gen. Melchor Rosales (retired) who has been implementing a pro-active program for the country’s senior amateurs, confirmed that 170 participants have already signed up for the Veterans leg.
The one-day tournament, chiefly sponsored by San Miguel Corp., stakes five individual awards in Group I (55 to 59 years old), Group II (60-64), Group III (65-69), Group IV (70-74) and Group V (75 and above).
As an innovation, FPASGI will begin the scoring cap at Veterans for the individual, medal-play competition.
The maximum score will be a four-under for all. In case of ties, the winners will be declared via a count-back.
There will also be a team contest, wherein four players can group to form a squad. To be eligible, the players with the best four handicap average will have to notify the organizer prior to the event.
“FPASGI is very happy with the turnout of our events this year. 180 came to our season-opener at Valley Golf then more than 200 showed up in the Presidents’ Cup at the Orchard. More seniors are taking an active role and that’s good for our group,” Rosales said.
