Resma rules CDO Smart/Head junior tennis leg

MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan de Oro’s Roxanne Resma used a strong forehand to win two titles in the 14th Smart Presents in the Cagayan de Oro leg of the Head 2012 junior national tennis age-group satellite circuit yesterday at the Golden Village Tennis Courts.

The second-seeded Resma, 14, showed toughness in the girls’ singles 18-under class as she rallied past No. 1 Lynette Palasan, 5-7, 6-1, 10-5, to capture the crown of the 64-day junior satellite tournament supported by Smart, Chris Sports, Head, Maynilad, Meralco and Toalson.

She denied first leg winner Jenni Dizon of Davao another 16-under title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory for her second crown of the event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and organized by Juanito Cansino.  

“I’m so happy to win the 18 and 16 girls’ titles at my own hometown,” said Resma, hoping to win more crowns in the fourth leg in Zamboanga City this week.

In the boys’ 18-under singles, Joel Cabusas, winner of the same event in the first leg, earned his second crown with a 6-0, 6-2 beating of Ajutor Moraldi. In the boys’ 16-under finals, Rolly Saga beat Nico Lanzado, 6-2, 6-4. 

Top seed Carmela Llavore subdued Grace Barola, 7-5, 5-7, 12-10, to win the girls’ 14-under trophy, while Arthur Craig Pantino derailed Bryan Otico, 6-0, 6-1, to rule the boys’ 14-under .

Mat Steve Palasan won the boys’ singles 12-under crown.

 by beating Janus Ringia, 6-3, 7-5, while Gennifer Pagente outlasted Aubrey Calma, 1-6, 7-6, 10-8, for the girls’ 12-under singles diadem.

Hanan Abdul Cariga whipped Alfred Directo, 6-4, 7-6, for the 10-under unisex crown of the event participated by 150 young participants that seek junior ranking points.
