Aguinaldo cops 3 crowns in ICTSI jungolf interclub
MANILA, Philippines - The buildup paid off as Aguinaldo completed a three-division sweep in team play and scooped up the most individual trophies Friday in the ICTSI Jungolf Interclub golf tournament at the Aoki course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.
With individual champs Bianca Pagdanganan, Jelbert Gamolo and JP de Claro leading the assault, Aguinaldo posted a 1-2 finish in Division 1, shrugged off the challenge of Riviera in Division 2 and cruised to a lopsided win in Division 3 for the mighty sweep by the military club.
De Claro claimed the Class A plum while Pagdanganan and Gamolo prevailed in Class B for three of the five individual victories fashioned in the sweltering heat at one of the four courses of the country’s biggest golf complex.
Division 2 team spearhead Kristoffer Arevalo (Class C) and Sean Granada (Class E) also won individual trophies for Aguinaldo in the event backed chiefly by ICTSI and also supported by Pancake House, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin’ Pepper, PAL, Duty Free Philippines, McDonald’s, Golf Depot, Pioneer Insurance, PacSports, Julies Bakeshop, Inquirer Golf and Microtel.
Arevalo joined hands with Yuka Saso and Wei-Wei Gao to amass a closing 155 and give Aguinaldo a 12-point win over Riviera in Division 2. Already far ahead the first two rounds, Granada and teammates Leandro Bagtas and Anton Rosales closed out with a 123 for 353 and a 50-point win over Navy in Division 3.
Also emerging as individual winners were Princess Superal in girls Class A, Sam Bruce in Class C, Carl Corpus and Bernice Olivarez-Ilas in Class D, Arnie Taguines of Navy in Class E, Jet Lim Ang of Navy in Class F and Anya Cedo of Riviera in Class F.
The summer circuit continues tomorrow with the Junior World qualifying at the Legends course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite.
Superal ended up tied with The Country Club teammate Sarah Ababa at 145 but prevailed in the countback. De Claro was impressive in a seven-point win over teammate Aris Mata, Gamolo finished three clear of Raymart Tolentino while Pagdanganan won by 9 over Pauline del Rosario, 157-148, with her win aided by the absence of world champion Mia Legaspi who failed to show up due to fever.
