Aguinaldo kids on course for jungolf sweep

-

MANILA, Philippines - Team Aguinaldo pressed its bid for a sweep by holding on to the lead in Divisions 1 and 2 and pulling away in Division 3 after the second round of the ICTSI Jungolf Interclub golf tournament at the Aoki course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

Aguinaldo 1 aggregated 151 for the second straight day to widen its lead to nine over sister squad Aguinaldo 2 with a 302 total in Division 1 and also had the same advantage over Riviera 1 in Division 2 after posting a 156 for 298. It was all over but the shouting for Aguinaldo, however, in Division 3 where it streaked to a commanding 32-point margin over Navy 1.

Bianca Pagdanganan fired 52 points, Jelbert Gamolo had 50 and Aris Mata chipped in 49 for the Aguinaldo cause in Division 1.

Kristoffer Arevalo (54), Wei-Wei Gao (53) and Yuka Saso (49) delivered the big points in Division 2 for Aguinaldo while Leandro Bagtas (48), Aean Granada (46) and Anton Rosales (23) carried the scoring brunt for their team in Division 3.

The individual competition was tighter as Princess Superal and ICTSI teammate Sarah Ababa were tied for the top spot with similar 98-point totals in girls Class A and JP de Claro’s 100 gave him a four-point cushion over Inigo Raymundo in boys Class A.

Also leading their respective divisions were Gamolo and Pagdanganan in Class B, Arevalo and Sam Bruce in Class C, Carl Corpus and Bernice Ilas in Class D, Sean Granada and Arnie Taguines in Class E and Kirk dela Torre and Anya Cedo in Class F.

Pagdanganan is up for a big challenge as she leads world champion Mia Legaspi by just two, 104-102, which is the same count for Arevalo and Aidric Chan. Corpus gave away five points to Josh Jorge and is up by a point going to the final round. Taguines leads by 10, Granada and Bruce by six and dela Torre by two.

The tourney, backed chiefly by ICTSI and also supported by Pancake House, Teriyaki Boy, Sizzlin’ Pepper, PAL, Duty Free Philippines, McDonald’s, Golf Depot, Pioneer Insurance, PacSports, Julies Bakeshop, Inquirer Golf and B Hotel, drew a record 155 jungolfers from 16 clubs all over the country.
