Superal finishes second in Sabah
MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal matched par 72 then nipped two others in the countback to snatch runner-up honors in the 28th Sabah Amateur Open Golf Championship won by Malaysian ace Kelly Tan in runaway fashion in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Sunday.
Superal banged in a couple of long putts for par in the closing holes to turn in a second straight 72 as she tied ICTSI teammate Jayvie Agojo and Malaysian Aretha Pan Herng in second at 219.
Tan capped his superb 54-hole stint with a two-under 70 and wound up with a 213 for a six-shot romp over Superal, Agojo and Herng. Agojo made a 74 while Herng also carded an even par 72.
Dottie Ardina failed to find her rhythm and closed out with a 75, finishing tied for fifth with first round leader Sunshine Baraquiel, who skied to 77 for a 222.
The event served as part of the ICTSI-Philippine team buildup for the Queen Sirikit Cup slated this month in Singapore where Ardina is the reigning individual champion.
