Philex-Kennon runners to get free insurance
MANILA, Philippines - Participants in the 2012 Philex Mining Kennon Global Marathon will get free accident insurance courtesy of Fortune General Insurance Corp. (FGIC).
FGIC president Michael Rellosa has announced that his company is serving as the official insurer of the country’s first uphill marathon to make it a worry-free event for all 2,000 runners expected to participate.
“We are proud to be a partner of Philex-Kennon Global Marathon,” said Rellosa.
Every registered runner in Philex-Kennon Global Marathon has a personal accident insurance worth P20,000 which will be used in case of accidents.
Safety is paramount for the marathon’s organizers. The Philippine National Police in Benguet and Baguio will be partially closing Kennon Road during the run, which will start in four key areas at exactly 6 a.m.
The 21k Conquerors Race will start in front of the Assembly of God church in Camp 3; the 9k Lionhearts Race will start at the Lion’s Head; the 5k Next-In-Line Race will start at Richgate junction in Camp 7; and the 3k Aspirants Race will commence in front of Milton House in Camp 8.
The Spectrum Bag-iw and their chapters in Laoag and La Union will serve as race marshals along Kennon Road while the Baguio Emergency Communications Group (BECG) will take over from the Baguio General Hospital (BGH) to the finish line in Burnham Park.
Emergency medical teams from BGH, the 911 On Call, and Philippine National Red Cross will be manning the medical tents while members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines will serve at the water stations.
Cash prizes amounting to P252,000 await the winners in all categories, with the champion taking home P40,000 and a bonus of P10,000 courtesy of El Cielito Hotel for the first Filipino Finisher in the 21k race.
