BAGUIO ,Philippines – Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Rep. Bernardo Vergara have agreed to contribute P100,000 to the prize fund of the Kennon Global Marathon, doubling the pot money for the 21k premier race firing off April 15 on Kennon Road.
Domogan said the additional cash prizes are the city’s way of showing its full support to the event presented by Philex Mining Corp. and backed by LBC, Fortune General Insurance, Smart and Tiong San Department Store.
Vergara, meanwhile, said he hopes local runners will win the top cash prize now pegged at P50,000 after El Cielito Hotel donated P10,000 for the champion’s purse. The winner in the distaff side will receive P40,000.
Registration is ongoing at the Tiong San Department Store on Harrison Road and in La Trinidad Benguet as well as Toby’s Sports in Baguio. Runners in Metro Manila can register at Toby’s Arena at Shangrila Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong.
Fees are P750 for 21k, P650 for 9k, P550 for 5k and P450 for 3k. Aside from the race packs, all finishers will receive “I Conquered Kennon Road” t-shirts. The 21k finishers will receive medals.
