Petron former import suits up for Beermen

MANILA, Philippines - Nick Fazekas, the high-scoring import who suited up for Petron Blaze in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, will return to the San Miguel fold as he reinforces the Beermen in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League.

“The San Miguel Beermen team announces the return of Nick Fazekas to replace Jarrid Famous in the ABL,” SMC sports consultant Noli Eala announced yesterday.

Famous played seven games for SMB, norming 12.29 points and 5.14 rebounds per outing. He had 20 markers and seven boards in their 71-69 road victory over Indonesia Warriors last Saturday.

According to Eala, the 6-11 Fazekas is due to arrive in Manila today to link up with fellow reinforcement Duke Crews, who had an 11-point 11-rebound effort in his debut game against the Warriors, and the rest of the Beermen (10-4), currently running second to the AirAsia Phl Patriots (11-2).

Fazekas, who averaged a whopping 30.57 points, 18.43 rebounds, 2.29 blocks and 2 assists in seven games with Petron, comes in just as the Beermen are gearing up for back-to-back tough games in the coming days.

The Beermen will parade Fazekas for the first time on Easter Sunday in Kuala Lumpur against the Westport Malaysia Dragons, a team they haven’t beaten in two meetings so far.

A week later, SMB will face off with pacesetting Patriots in a third-round encounter tipped to be as fierce as their fight-marred duel last March 4.
