Petecio, Aparri fall in Asian boxing

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ Alice Kate Aparri and Nesthy Petecio both settled for a bronze medal as they lost their semifinal bouts in the Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia yesterday.

Aparri lost her match versus longtime Indian rival MC Marykom while Petecio dropped her bout against Chinese foe Keija Luo.

Marykom kept her mastery of Aparri, beating the Filipina in all their four meetings now.

India is tipped to win the overall championship with eight fighters making the semifinals.

The Philippines fielded in three bets with light flyweight Josie Gabuco beaten in her first bout.
