PATAFA sanctions Yakult 10-miler

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA), the national governing body for walk and run events in the country, has given its sanction for the holding of the 23rd Yakult 10-Miler on April 1 at the CCP complex grounds in Pasay City.

This was announced by PATAFA president Go Teng Kok. With the PATAFA sanction, the race will be carried out in accordance with the regulations and sanction of the I.A.A.F. All national athletes under the PATAFA training pool will also be allowed to run.

Set to start at 5:30 a.m. from the Vicente Sotto St. at the CCP complex in Pasay, the run will use the southbound side of Roxas Blvd. from P. Burgos St. in Manila until MIA road in Parañaque from 5-9 a.m. Motorists travelling southbound on Roxas Blvd. are advised to take alternative routes during these hours.

At stake is a total cash prize of P30,000 for the top finishers of the 10-mile (16 K) run.

According to Michael Ong, Yakult Phils., Inc. manager for sales and planning, P7,000 cash prize will be awarded to the overall champion and the top female finisher of the 16K centerpiece event. The second placers will get P3,000, third P2,000, fourth P1,000 and fifth P500.

Trophies will also be awarded to the top three finishers of the 16K race, men and women, while medals will be awarded to the fourth and fifth placers. The top three finishers in the 5K and the 3K age group will also receive medals. A bag of Yakult unique health drink will also be awarded to all awardees.

All finishers will receive the Yakult finisher’s t-shirts. Upon registration, participants have been issued a starter’s singlet. A commemorative trophy also await the group with the biggest delegation.

Registration is ongoing until today at the following registration centers: Mizuno Trinoma Mall, Mizuno SM Megamall, and at Mizuno Bonifacio High St. at the Bonifacio Global City.

One may also register online by visiting race.com.ph. However, race kits and starters singlets will still have to be claimed from any of the registration centers.

Yakult started organizing running events in 1984 with its monthly Yakult 10K Running Circuit under the auspices of the Department of Youth and Sports Development headed by Elpidio Doroteo, the first international marathon organizer in the country. In 1988, Yakult introduced the Yakult 10-Miler and is now on its 23rd year of providing a yearly middle distance event.
