MANILA, Philippines – Action in the National Golf Association of the Phils.-Globe Amateur Golf Circuit resumes with the country’s top players and rising stars in both the men’s and ladies divisions vying for top honors in the 17th WWW-Express DHL Amateur Golf Championship at Canlubang Golf Club slated March 27-30.
The event serves as the second leg of the circuit which features no less than 11 tournaments spread over the country’s top courses held as part of Globe Telecom and NGAP’s effort to develop the sport and provide the amateurs a series of tournaments where they could hone their talent and skills in preparation for international competitions.
Fil-Singaporean Gregory Foo and Lovelynn Guioguio topped the Philippine Amateur (Open) Championship, which served as the circuit’s kickoff leg in Canlubang last January.
The third leg – the Philippine Amateur (Closed) Golf Championship – will be held at the challenging Sherwood Hills Golf and Country Club in Trece Martires, Cavite on April 11-15. Sherwood Hills GC, the newest member of the NGAP, earlier expressed its intent in hosting more than just one tournament during a MOA signing conducted in their office last week.
“We look forward to Sherwood Hills playing a major role in Philippine golf in the coming years,” said Tommy Manotoc, NGAP golf development and tournaments head.
The NGAP has linked up with Globe Telecom late last year to launch the new amateur circuit where members of the national team for various international tournaments will be selected.
The NGAP will also hold the Visayas and Mindanao regionals and the national boys and doubles championships, the junior amateur open among others.
Globe Telecom is the main presentor of the year-round circuit sanctioned and organized by the NGAP.
