Sipalay hosts nat'l age group triathlon
MANILA, Philippines - The Century Tuna National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) series holds its third leg on March 24 in Sipalay, Negros Occidental with a big field composed of triathletes from nearby provinces as well as from Luzon expected to vie for honors.
A joint project of the TRAIN (Triathlon Association of the Island of Negros), the city government of Sipalay and the provincial government of Negros Occidental, the race will showcase Sipalay’s picturesque environment as triathletes will swim 1,500 meters on pristine waters, bike for 40 kilometers on flat roads that go along a river, and run for 10 kms by the white sand beach. At the same time a sprint distance course of 750 meter swimming, 20km biking and 5km running has also been set.
At stake in the event sponsored by Century Tuna, Standard Insurance, Philippine Sports Commission, ARENA, K-Swiss, Pocari Sweat, the Department of Tourism (DOT), Dan’s Bike Shop, and Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines Inc., are medals and gift packs/certificates for age-group winners (including those in sprint, mini-sprint, relay and SuperTriKids categories) as well as a post-event meal for all participants.
Sipalay Mayor Oscar Montilla Jr. and Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will lead local officials in welcoming triathletes to scenic Sipalay.
