MANILA, Philippines - Villamor 1 assembled a five-under 67 then nipped Sta. Elena in the countback to rule the Dominga Capati Memorial golf tournament at the north course of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna recently.
Bannered by MaryAnn Reyes, Sol Antonio, Melissa Gozum, Marissa Romano, Pearl Wu and Ann Sabater, Villamor strung up nines of 33-34 under the six-player Modified Team Scramble format, gross scores.
Sta. Elena, composed of Careth Ricamonte, Rio Co, Lota Nemec, Misako Ogihara, Amy Ward and Ymir Oliquino, matched Villamor’s 33-34 output but the Pasay-based squad took the title with six birdies as against Sta. Elena’s five.
Alabang 2, made up of Rita Horan, Joan Morales, Ui Mendoza, Lolita Arguelles, Arlene Barclay and Rachel Shah, shot a 68 then nipped sister team Alabang 1, composed of Finina Gorres, Eun Sil Jang, Vicelyn Torralba, Carol Nielsen, Joyce Duque and Coralyn del Rosario, via toss coin to clinch third place in the 45th staging of the annual tournament held in honor of the former golfing great.
A total of 17 teams from 10 clubs took part in the tournament hosted by CGCC and backed by the Yulo family, headed by Cangolf’s executive director Luigi Yulo, external affairs official Oscar Papa, and held under the auspices of Women’s Golf Association of the Phils., led by president Rio Co, and Cangolf Chapter head Charing Villar.
