NU women's cagers to train in Malaysia
MANILA, Philippines - The National University women’s basketball team is set to play a series of games against the Malaysian squads starting March 26 as part of its buildup for the coming UAAP season.
As host of the 75th season of the premier collegiate league, NU, backed by Ever Bilena and SM Supermarkets through Herbert Sy and Herson Sy, is going all out in its effort to toughen up and stop the domination of Far Eastern University and Adamson in the event.
“We have been preparing hard for the coming UAAP season because the marching order is to make it to the Final Four,” said Ever Bilena chairman Dioceldo Sy. “It’s going to be tough to beat the likes of FEU and Adamson but we’re improving steadily.”
“I like to thank Mr. Herbert and Mr. Herson for their all-out support for the team. I hope we will not fail them,” added Sy.
The 13-member team, led by team managers Johnson Martines and Mike Tan and coach Pat Aquino, is leaving March 25 for a week-long training and exhibition games against the Malaysian national and junior teams. Also joining the team, which topped the Fr. Martin’s Cup recently, is Silliman Sy.
NU’s games in Malaysia were arranged by former Philippine team coach Boyzie Zamar, who is now based in Malaysia.
