John Hay retains Corp Cup crown
MANILA, Philippines - Camp John Hay Golf Club, Inc. closed out with a solid 162 and posted a 15-point victory over Team Baguio to complete its back-to-back title romp in the Philippine Corporate Cup at John Hay Golf Club in Baguio Thursday.
Bong Mandapat led the hosts’ second round charge with 58 Molave points while Oh Kyung Ja fired 53 and either Shean Bedi or Goody Ignacio’s 51 counted for the team’s impressive 162 output in the four-to-play, three-to-count format.CJHGCI, which had a 152 in the opener, assembled a 314 in Group I, 15 points ahead of Team Baguio, which wound up with a 299 after a 150.
Camp John Hay Suites, which started the final round just two points off CJHGCI with a 150, struggled with a 141 and dropped to third with a 291 in the event co-presented by Warbird Security, Ricoh Phils. and Nitro France.
Mandapat completed the hosts’ sweep by winning the individual title with a 111, ahead of Thirdy Escano of CJH Suites, (105) and Ignacio (104).
Rural Bankers, with Pelagio Alcantara Jr. firing 49 and 47 points, hobbled with a 137 but nipped Pugad Adventure in the countback to capture the Group 2 crown.
Rural Bankers had a 283, the same output put in by Pugad Adventure, which rallied with a 146. Ricoh Phils. came in third with a 140-282.
Interconnect Systems, Inc., behind Rex Luis Goquingco’s 48 and 46 points, dominated Group 3 with 269 from rounds of 127-142.
