Cebu inches closer to UFL lead

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu Queen City United FC rolled past Team Socceroos, 6-1, to inch close to the pacesetters in the Second Division of the United Football League at the University of Makati field in Makati City yesterday.

John Michael Flores and Dan Villarico came through with two goals each as the Visayan booters overpowered their rivals and switched places with their victim with 13 points on four wins, two losses and a draw.

Team Socceroos fell from fourth to fifth with 13 points as it took its third defeat against the same number of wins and a draw.

After Flores and Socceroos’ Christopher Roza swapped goals in the first 14 minutes for a 1-1 count, Benedict Luis Ariola broke the tie in the 25th minute with Flores knocking in his second goal three minutes later.

And then Villarico struck, blasting away a couple of goals in a three-minute stretch before the match entered the break to give Cebu a comfortable 5-1 lead. Marion Rey Cubelo capped the lopsided win with another goal on the 76th.

Also at UMak, Diliman Victory Liner FC edged Forza FC, 2-0, and Pachanga FC blanked Sunken Garden United FC, 13-0, to keep their 1-2 posts with 22 and 21 points, respectively.

The two were six and seven points clear of third-running Agila FC with 15 points.

Jose Andoni Santos and Bismark Frimpong scored a goal apiece in each of the half to hack out the win marred by the ejection of Forza’s Zico Roberts d on the 64th minute.

It was Santos’ 10th goal in the league as he tied Sunken Garden United FC’s Romnick Jover with most goals in the Second Division.

While Diliman struggled, Pachanga had little trouble disposing of Sunken Garden United FC with a rain of goals to fashion out the one-sided triumph.

Alfredo Gonzales completed a hat trick while Jovin Bedic, Mohanad Farah and Robert Canedo came through with a pair of goals each to lead the rout. The other scorers were Jalsor Soriano, Oussenynou Diop, Christopher Ojamire and Ugochukwu Okoro Ubiam.
