UE dominates Espada under-23 fencing tourney

MANILA, Philippines - The UE Red Warriors Fencing Team won nine of the 12 categories in the Espada Under-23 Fencing Championships held Jan. 29 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

The UE fencers also received four silver medals and seven bronze medals, bringing UE’s total medal count to 20.

UE’s team outclassed teams from Far Eastern U, Ateneo, University of the Philippines and Reedley International School.

The epee gold medalists were Marlowe Nicole Osayan in the 13-16 division and Lee Eigran Erginal in the 17-23 division and Elaine Kea Gonzales in the girls’ 17-23 division. Other UE fencers in the division were Clark Vincent De Guzman (No. 6), Roger Randall Samia (No. 7), Ruvic John Delos Santos (No. 8) and Felipe Kimbert (No.11).

UE made it 1-2-3 in the boys’ foil event (17-23) through Francois Nowell Licono (gold), Michael Nicanor (silver) and Nathaniel Perez (bronze).

Other gold medal winners were Divine Romero (girls’ foil 13-16), Justine Gail Tinio (boys 17-23), Bryan John Bon Santos (boys saber), Allaine Nicole Cortey (girls’ sabre, 13-16).

The UE team is under the mentorship of coaches Rolando Canlas, Rufelrino Endriano and Chester Uy.
