AMA rules NAASCU; St. Clare third
MANILA, Philippines - AMA Computer College swept the 11th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) men’s and women’s volleyball titles, winning both at the expense of Centro Escolar University at the University of Manila Gymnasium.
RJ Francisco, Ryan Clarin, Leo Balmeo and Ace Mollieda led the Titans to a 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-22 conquest of the Scorpions for the men’s crown.
The Lady Titans made it a twin-kill with a 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23 victory over the Lady Scorpions.
Francisco was adjudged the men’s MVP while Clarin, Balmeo and Mollieda took home the Best Setter, Best Attacker and Best Receive awards.
AMACU mentor Jose Mari Anulo won the Coach of the Year honors while CEU’s Jun dela Cruz and St. Clare’s John Acosta took the Best Blocker and Best Server awards, respectively.
Joyce Chu was named the women’s MVP. She also emerged as the Best Attacker while teammate Aiko Mago emerged the Best Receiver with mentor Albert Nepomuceno bagging the Coach of the Year plum.
CEU’s Precious Uy, Llyn Nacario and Melissa Tebangin were the recipients of the Best Attacker, Best Blocker and Best Libero plums.
St. Clare defeated New Era University, 27-25, 25-22, 25-16, for third place in the men’s division while the NEU belles won over Informatics International College, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, for second runner-up honors in their side.
