Angelicum tossers seek top seeding

MANILA, Philippines - Angelicum College takes on also-ran MGC New Life Academy today, needing a sweep to clinch the top seeding in the semifinal round of the Shakey’s Girls Volley League NCR Leg at the Arellano gym in Legarda.

The ANC spikers are actually gunning for a six-game sweep of the single round elims in Pool B of the two-division tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Metro Sports. But they must beat the MGC side in two to gain the No. 1 seed and a clash with the No. 2 team in Pool A in the crossover semis.

Colegio San Agustin wound up with a 5-1 and will get the top seeding if ANC is dragged into a three-setter by MGC based on the revised FIVB point system for team classification.

But Angelicum is all set to dominate MGC in the 10 a.m. opener of a five-game bill marking the end of the elims of the tournament backed by Toby’s, Mikasa and Asics.

The semis and the finals will be played today.

Six-time defending champion Mighty Sports Hope Christian School swept Pool A and took the No. 1 spot with National University settling for No. 2.

In other matches, St. James Academy-Malabon takes on UP Integrated School, Elizabeth Seton School battles St. James-Parañaque, Rizal High School collides with De La Salle-Zobel and the UPIS squares off with MGC.
