MANILA, Philippines - Nikki Therese Lim Servando outclassed Johanna Rose Aganinta of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 21-2, 21-6, to pocket the ladies singles gold medal and lead College of St. Benilde’s domination of the 87th NCAA badminton tournament at Powersmash Badminton Center in Makati last week.
Servando, a culinary freshman at CSB, stamped her class from start to fashion out the one-sided victory and complete her sweep of 14 games in the event which she highlighted by winning the coveted MVP plum.
Danica Rueda and Bettina Abrahan also downed EAC’s Mikka Molina and Joyce Castro, 21-15, 21-10, to cop the doubles gold medal while Pam Sargan downed Regine Dominguez, 21-7, 21-4, to cap CSB’s sweep of the distaff side.
“I’m very happy and proud with the team’s accomplishment. Despite the loss of our top player, Nikki came right in time and helped us achieved this feat,” said CSB coach Lloyd Escoses.
St. Benilde also claimed the boys’ team championship, edging Letran, 2-1.
“I never expected this. I just tried to develop my game under coach (Lloyd) Escoses and I’m very happy that I go easily with the system. I thanked my teammates and family for their support and prayers,” said Servando, a four-time Palarong Pambansa champion.
