Biggest SM Bowling Cup to unwrap Feb 20

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - The SM Bowling Cup, considered the longest, biggest and richest annual bowling event in the country, will unfold on Feb. 20 at all SM Bowling Centers, including in Cebu.

SM executives Jed Arboleda and Bonnie Solis said this year’s staging will stake not only hundreds of thousands of cash prizes but also three Chevrolet cars for the eventual national champions, making it the biggest.

“We’re inviting everyone to join our qualifying tournaments starting on Feb. 20 for a chance to make it to our national finals where we will stake cash prizes and Chevrolet vehicles to winners,” said Arboleda in yesterday’s PSA Forum backed by Smart, Pagcor and Shakey’s Pizza.

The nationals finals are set in May at SM North Edsa, September at SM Fairview and December at SM Mall of Asia. The winners there will get a Chevrolet Cruise, Chevrolet Orlando and Chevrolet Cruise.

The second placers will get P100,000 each while the third and fourth finishers will receive P50,000 and P20,000, respectively.

“In the past, some of our winners made it to the national team and we hope to produce more in this tournament,” said Solis. “But of course, this tournament is only open to non-members of the national team.”

Among the former winners of this meet who made it to the Phl squad were 2010 Phl International Open Masters champion Benshir Layoso, multi-titled Jong Enriquez and Diane Coronacion and current national pool member Sammy Sy.
