Lions topple Pirates, keep football lead
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion San Beda College whipped guest squad Lyceum, 3-1, to stay on top even as De La Salle-College of St. Benilde blanked University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 3-0, for its second victory in three games in the eighth NCAA football tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Pirates actually scored the opening goal courtesy of Raffy Cabog in the 15th minute but were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Jim Ashley Flores tied the match in the 38th minute while Neil Dorimon closed the half with another goal in the 45th minute.
Jay Shaun Soberano secured the win with another goal in the 76th minute as the Red Lions streaked to their fourth consecutive victory.
The Lyceum booters dropped to 1-3-0 (win-loss-draw).
The Blazers, meanwhile, drew two goals from Ralph Lauren Porteria and another from Roald Tamsi to crush the Altas and move to solo third at 2-1-1 behind the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (3-1-0).
The Altas took their fifth straight loss.
In the juniors side, the Red Cubs blasted the Junior Pirates, 9-0, to grab solo lead with six wins, while defending champion CSB-LSGH Greenies ripped the Altalettes, 7-0, to stay at solo third with a 4-1-0 win-loss-draw mark, behind the second-running Arellano Chiefs (5-1-0).
The Altalettes absorbed their third setback against four wins to remain at fourth.
