Clinic for future champs up

MANILA, Philippines - Kids aged seven to 13 years old can still live up their racing dreams as Castrol Philippines and Tuason Racing School stage the third karting clinic of the “Castrol Champions of the Future” discovery program on Feb. 12 at the Carmona Racetrack.

Castrol and Tuason Racing School are supported by corporate sponsors Automobile Association Philippines, Philippine International Karting Association (PIKA), OMP, AUTS Racing, Industria Racing, Lifeline Ambulance, KZone and TimeZone in their thrust of discovering future karting champions and continuing the transition of talents to intensify the development of Philippine motorsports.

Twenty of these young kids will qualify for the program and will have the feel of competition as they battle each other in a three-leg series for the overall crown.

The karting clinics will provide these young aspiring racing wannabes the basics of racing and other techniques under the tutelage of multi-titled champions JP and Mike Tuason.

The pilot clinic in Cebu drew a huge field while over 20 kids joined the second karting clinic last month. TRS expects more to join the third karting clinic and those who will be chosen in the first three karting clinics may see action in the first race of the three-leg Castrol Champions of the Future Series tentatively set Feb. 26 also at the Carmona Racetrack.

Scholarship seats aside from other prizes are up for grabs for those who will be picked from the program.

“The number of aspiring young kids who joined the first clinic is really quite inspiring. And we consider this as a big step in the fulfillment of our dream of seeing a future Filipino champion in the Formula One Racing scene,” said Castrol president Mars Sota.

“From the trend of our pilot karting clinic, it looks like we will have more of these young talents shining in the karting scene this year. And one of them will rise to be the next Karter of the Year and possibly a world racing champion,” added TRS president JP Tuason.

The last of the karting clinics is tentatively set March 11 at the Carmona Racetrack while the other two legs of the Castrol Champions of the Future Series are tentatively slated March 25 at the Boomland Kart Track and the championship on April 15 at the Carmona Racetrack.

Last year, it was Raymond Cudala who emerged the overall winner of the Castrol Champions of the Future Series and further proved himself deserving of the distinction when he captured the overall Cadet SQ Expert crown of the National Karting Series.

Aside from Cudala, other products of the said program also glittered and carved their own milestones like William Casequin, Arthur Tuason and Flynn Jackes who made it in the top 5 of the Cadet SQ Expert class, and so with Bryan Thorp, Gabe Tayao, Dylan Arambulo, Xedrei Daquigan and Jose Luigi Lachica in the Cadet SQ Novice division.
