MANILA, Philippines - A busy weekend of exciting action marks the return of karting races with the staging of the championship round of the 2011 Petron Karting Super Series and the kickoff of the 2012 Denso KF2-KF3 Cup Series set Feb. 4-5 at the Carmona Racetrack.
Up for grabs are the series titles in the ROK Novice, ROK Junior, ROK Senior and ROK Overall division on Feb. 4 for the unfinished business of the 2011 Petron Karting Super Series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron Blaze, San Miguel Corporation, Motorstar and Aeromed.
The 2012 Denso KF2-KF3 Cup Series featured the showdown of Filipino ace karters up against the foreign champion rivals from neighboring Asian countries for the titles at stake.
The two major karting events will be the basis for the coveted Karter of the Year and Junior Karter of the Year Awards.
The Karter of the Year will be based on the final cumulative points on ranking for the ROK Overall and KF2 class while the Junior Karter of the Year will be based on the final cumulative points on ranking for ROK Junior and KF3 class.
Defending champion Stefano Marcelo of Maranello-San Miguel Corporation-Marcelo Racing is set to formalize his claim for a historic fourth Karter of the Year award that will make him the all-time greatest Filipino karter. He leads both the ROK Overall and the ROK Senior classes with 351 and 381 points, respectively, against FERN-C Racing’s VJ Suba.
