Perpetual coasts to NCAA volley final

-

MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help System Dalta repeated over defending champion San Sebastian, 25-11, 25-19, 25-11, yesterday to cruise to the women’s finals in the 87th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The power-hitting pair Sandra delos Santos and Norie Jane Diaz combined for 29 hits to power the Lady Altas to their second straight win in the round-robin semifinal format and into the finals.

“It’s a good feeling we’re still unbeaten, we hope to keep it up and win the championship for the school,” said Perpetual coach Mike Rafael in Filipino.

Perpetual’s men’s team, the defending champion, likewise remained unscathed as it fought back from a 1-2 deficit to turn back San Beda in five, 22-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14.

With two wins, the Altas need another win against the Arellano U Chiefs on Monday to advance to the finals.

“We’re taking it one step at a time,” said Perpetual’s men’s squad mentor Sam Acaylar.

League president and policy board chair Anthony Tamayo of season host Perpetual said he is proud of the way their teams are performing.

“We’re proud of what they’re achieving and hopeful they’ll keep up the good work,” said Tamayo.
