Ateneo spikers seek UAAP Final 4

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo tries to formalize its entry in the Final Four as it plays Adamson University today in the UAAP Season 74 women’s volleyball at the San Juan Arena.

The Lady Eagles’ head coach Roger Gorayeb, however, stressed the need for his wards to raise the level of their game to win.

The Eagles are gunning for their ninth win in 11 games in the 3:30 p.m. match, a record that would send them to the next round with early semifinalist La Salle (10-0).

The other women’s match at 2 p.m. pits University of the East against National University with the Lady Warriors needing to win their remaining four eliminations assignments to stay alive for the last semifinals berth. The Lady Bulldogs are out of the running with 1-9. So is University of the Philippines with 0-10.

The men’s matches today pit NU against Ateneo at 9 a.m. and UE against Far Eastern University at 10:30 a.m.

Softball action also resumes today with the second-round matches at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium between De La Salle and Adamson at 7:30 a.m., UST against UE at 9:30 a.m. and Ateneo against UP at 11:30 a.m. Juniors baseball pits Ateneo against UST at 3 p.m. also at the Rizal diamond.

In tennis also at Rizal Memorial, it will be UST against UP and De La Salle against Ateneo starting at 9 a.m. and NU against UE at noon in the men’s division, and Ateneo against De La Salle in the women’s contest also beginning at noon.

At the Ateneo field in Katipunan, juniors football will feature the matches between UST and La Salle-Zobel ast 1 p.m. and FEU against Ateneo at 3:15 p.m.

Fifth-round action in chess also gets going today at the FEU-Manila Mini Theater—NU vs. FEU, UST vs. De La Salle, Ateneo vs. Adamson and UE vs. UP in the men’s; UST vs. Ateneo, La Salle-Zobel vs. NU and FEU vs. Adamson in juniors; and UE vs. De La Salle, UST vs. Adamson; NU vs. FEU and NU vs. FEU in the women’s.
