Koreans dominate John Hay Chair Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Im Do Hyun and Yu Yeong Jae dished out top form to lead the South Koreans’ romp in the Camp John Hay’s Chairman’s Cup at the John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City last weekend.

Im, a scratch player, fired 33 Stableford points to capture the overall crown while Yu, a 23-handicapper, shot 44 points to bag the overall net title in the 12th staging of the annual event held in honor of CJH chairman Bob Sobrepeña.

Kim O Mug capped the Koreans’ domination of the 36-hole event backed by hole-in-one sponsors Rizgolf, Wilson and Toyota, as she took the ladies plum with 42 points, edging last year’s overall champion Oh Kyung Ja, who had 40 points. Shin Hye Min finished third with 37 points.

Ed Montenegro, a 9-handicapper, carded 42 points to top the Class A division with Kim Min Ju and Baguio City Mayor Morris Domogan placing second and third with 40 and 39 points, respectively, in the event supported by Golforce, Univ. of Baguio, Subic Gas, Dept. of Tourism, Yulo, Carpio and Bello Law Office, Poblador, Bautista and Reyes Law Office, Bishop Carlito Cenzon Foundation and Camp John Hay Dev’t. Corp.

Fernando Sevilla, with an 11 handicap, turned in 42 points to rule Class B, nipping Park Pyeong Won, who also had a 42, in the countback while Yang Tae Hwa placed third with 41 points.

Other winners were Lee Young Chul (Class C-41 points), Philip Bautista (Class D-40 points), Joey Ancheta (Guest Division-50 points).
